Grant tools in use
Seven grant tools we built for foundations, faculties and central funding programmes at the University of Zurich and for the University Medicine Zurich network – where they carry every funding round.
In each of them the whole path runs digitally: application with attachments and deadlines, criteria-based review, committee decision, notification; in most, budget, grantee reports and evaluations as well.
And the processes could hardly be more different: travel grants of a thousand francs and research grants of a hundred thousand, multi-year teaching projects, career funding with external reviews, an investment budget with purchase release.

Filling the Gap (medtool)
Application platform for the two-year career programme for physician scientists – paid protected research time, mentoring, career planning – covering first and extension applications, department-chair approval, external reviews and the evaluation meeting with decision and budget.

HMS Tool
Application platform for a research foundation supporting basic science at the Faculty of Medicine – salaries, consumables, equipment and travel grants – with submission per period, completeness check, review, board decision, final report and a funding limit per person over ten years.

GRC Tool
Application and award platform of the Graduate Campus for cross-faculty support of doctoral students and postdocs – several funding lines on one platform, with approvals by co-applicants, cost centre and dean, review, board meeting with ranking, decision letters as PDF and activity reports.

IK Tool
Platform for the university's investment credit – the annual competitive budget procedure for equipment and facilities – in which organisational units enter and prioritise their requests, faculties and domains review, budgeting decides and, in a second stage, the purchase is released with quotes.

myUZHGrants
Application platform for three early-career programmes of the university – UZH Candoc / Postdoc Grant and Suslowa Postdoc Fellowship, Foundation for Research in Science and the Humanities, UZH Doc.Mobility – bilingual, with a salary-based financial plan, reference letters by link, faculty review, decision by the faculty representative and Excel and PDF export per funding round.

ULF
Application platform of the University Teaching Fund, which supports experimental teaching innovations for up to two years and assesses proposals by didactic idea, transferability, sustainability and student involvement – from approval by the study programme director through screening, review and committee ranking to the final decision, with multi-year financial follow-up and evaluation.

ACS
Application platform of the Advanced Clinician Scientist Program, through which University Medicine Zurich – a network of the university, ETH and four university hospitals – funds clinician scientists for three years of protected research time, personnel and expenses: application with mentoring and budget, comment round by the board of directors, external reviews by link, internal evaluator teams, evaluation meeting with interviews and budget box, and decision letters as PDF.
About
Who builds the tools
101-manufaktur grew out of the IT Support Group of the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Zurich. For two decades we have built and run the grant tools there that foundations, faculties and central funding programmes at UZH use to process their applications – from the first input form to the evaluation for the committee. We now bring that experience, as an independent team, to organisations that want to digitalise their funding processes.
